The Community & Development Services Department administers the review and application process for consumer fireworks through the Fireworks Facility Temporary Use Permit. The process includes review of the application, required documents and plans, and site visits by the Salina Fire Department, Building Services Division, Planning Division, and the City's Risk Management Specialist.
Application Deadline: The deadline to submit a complete Fireworks Facility Application is May 20th by 5:00 p.m. You are welcome to contact our office well ahead of the deadline if you have any questions about your submittal or need assistance to assure that your application is complete.
Sales Period: The sales of fireworks, including the dates such sales are allowed, shall be from June 27th to July 4th, in accordance with the Kansas Fire Safety and Prevention Statutes (K.SA 31-133 et seq.) as administered by the State Fire Marshal (K.A.R. 22-6-1 et seq.) and other applicable laws of the State of Kansas including the Kansas Retailers Sales Tax Act.
Permit Fees:
- Application Fee of $560.00, non-refundable due at time of application submittal
- Base fee of $2,210.00 for a facility (tent) of 1,500 sq. ft. or less plus $2.60 per sq. ft. over 1,500 sq. ft., due at the time of permit issuance
Facilities Outside City Limits: If the location of your proposed fireworks retail facility is outside the city limits of Salina, but in Saline County, please do not submit your application to the City of Salina. You must obtain your permit directly from the Saline County Planning office and can call them at 785-309-5813 for information about their permit process.
